In January 2009, Maria joined CitiMortgage's Originations senior leadership team where she heads up Strategic Markets which encompasses all low to moderate income lending, CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) and minority lending for CitiMortgage. In her current role, Maria interacts with various government agencies, finance authorities, and Government Sponsored Enterprises (such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) to achieve affordable lending goals. She also interfaces with senior sales management across the firm in setting the direction of the company’s strategy and tactics, especially with regard to CRA. She has been with the firm for five years and previously managed Strategic Markets Sales for all three channels.

With her experiences as a Latina businesswoman, Maria co founded Avanza in 2004; a consulting company assisting mid sized companies in preparing to serve diverse markets. She also has over 15 years of financial services experience in banking, investments, insurance and financial planning. In 2004, Maria was named commissioner to the Missouri Governor's Advisory Council of Hispanic Affairs; is also past Executive Director of The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis, and previously served as a board member of The Hispanic Alliance of Career Enhancement. Maria is a past recipient of The St. Louis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 recognition, a distinction given to influential leaders in St. Louis under the age of 40.

Maria holds a Bachelor Degree in International Relations from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a Masters in Marketing from Webster University. She lives in St. Charles with her husband and two children.
