CHICAGO, IL (OCTOBER 6, 2011)- When you look at the numbers of Latinos in management positions the numbers represent a challenge, especially when Latinos represent 16% of the U.S. population and $1.3 trillion dollars in purchasing power. Additionally, research shows that only 1% of Latinos are CEOs in corporate America and less than 5% are in director level positions.

What are you willing to risk, give up or change about yourself in the achievement of your goals? To effectively attain your dreams tomorrow, you must do what others will not do today.

It goes without saying that a job candidate must bring multiple copies of their resume to a career fair. One of the biggest things I am still learning to overcome is my fear of networking. It does gets a little easier each time I attend a networking event yet there is one detail that bothers me very much. It almost made me stop networking altogether earlier this year. There has been numerous times where I thought I made good connections with people at these events and sent out my follow up emails the next day ,but never received a response. It really frustrated me.

Unafraid, Unashamed and Unapologetic…

On Friday, May 6, 2011, I had the tremendous opportunity to share my insights and personal experience with the attendees at the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s Latina Empowerment Conference Series in Chicago. One of the common themes of the day was leadership.  What does it take to be a leader and what qualities do these leaders possess?

Prior to graduating from high school, I had never heard of nonprofit organizations.  I had an idea of what nonprofits were, but never fully explored the subject.  After graduating from college, I interviewed at HACE for an administrative opening.  Like any other job seeker, I prepared for the interview by doing research on the company. I was surprised to find out that HACE was a nonprofit organization.
