I joined the HACE board in the late ‘80s as it was just emerging as a valued presence in the Hispanic professional arena. I was a Category Business Director at Kraft Foods at the time. I had sought out involvement with HACE because I believed that my employer would benefit from participating in HACE's programs, especially the career fairs. This interested led to an unexpected board position.

My employer's commitment to Hispanic recruitment provided a strong connection between my personal interests and the company's business needs. A very positive incremental benefit of my HACE involvement was the friendships that I forged with other board members.

I am still in the consumer packaged foods industry. Our industry has changed in many respects over the almost two decades since I began working with HACE. Retention and recruitment of diverse employees, however, remains a very important issue. Within that scope, Hispanic recruitment in particular remains a challenge. HACE's expanded geographic presence and programming continue to provide value to committed employers.
