Miguel Alba

Reporting for Extra Bilingual Newspaper in 1989 on HACE’s advocacy and activities to help Hispanics advance in their careers was Miguel Alba’s first encounter with the organization.
Later on he worked as Director of External Affairs at Ameritech, SBC and AT&T, where he generated internal corporate support for HACE’s annual career fair. He allocated funds, volunteers and resources to advance the organization’s efforts.
In 2007, Alba got a call from Abe Hughes, who told him of an opportunity at Jewel-Osco. Hughes felt the position matched his credentials and experience. At the time, Jewel-Osco was making a commitment to diversity and HACE was working to introduce them to qualified candidates. Alba joined the company that July.
As Director of Public Affairs for Jewel-Osco, he was responsible for media affairs, community and government relations, as well as grants and sponsorships. Working with his staff, he enjoyed participating in community events that helped educate people on health issues, promoting scholarship programs that help send noteworthy students to college, and helping direct funding into grassroots efforts that make a difference.
In April of 2010, Alba became Director of Community and Governmental Affairs at Supervalu, a leading grocery retailing industry with approximately 2,500 retail stories nationwide. Alba oversees community relations, government affairs and corporate sponsorships & Grants for Jewel-Osco across Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, as well as Cub Foods in Minnesota.
As a Communications Specialist, Alba has over 20 years of working experience in corporate, government, media and not-for-profit environments. He graduated in 1989 from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale with a B.S. in Journalism and Speech Communications. He received his MBA in 2003 from Nortwestern University- Kellogg School of Mangement in Marketing, Business Strategy.
