Never did I imagine that a summer internship would help me land an incredible full-time career right by graduation time. The first time I discovered HACE was through a school project in which a couple of classmates and I were assigned to start a HACE chapter at the UIC campus. At the end of the semester, I submitted my resume to participate in an internship this past summer, and luckily, I was chosen. After spending time with the HACE staff and surrounded by such positive, humble individuals, one learns that there’s a different approach to putting yourself in the right atmosphere and the right people that truly want to help you succeed in your career. Many Latinos, even the younger generation, don’t grow up with mentors by their side to guide them in the right direction. It’s important to look for the right organizations and get involved with the community, network and become well rounded. At the beginning of the fall semester, I started to look for a stepping stone into my Marketing career. I was able to find a good position within the HACE website, applied, and with the help of Patricia Mota, Director of Membership Outreach, I was able to do a first round interview with Redbox. Several interviews later, and much anticipation, I landed my dream job with an incredible, growing and fun company.
