My name is Orlando Villatoro, and I am currently working for Caterpillar as an accountant in Fargo, North Dakota although I am from Houston, Texas. I want to share with everyone how I was able to learn about this opportunity through an HACE job fair in Houston in July 2011. However, I would like to mention how important it is to stay connected to family and friends at all times, but especially when you are job searching. During my search I had told a friend that I was looking. About a month before the job fair, he emailed me to let me know that HACE was having a job fair, which before his email I did not know about.
In the weeks leading up to the job fair HACE sent me material to let me know how to prepare and which companies would be attending. They advised me to research the company and if there was a position I was interested in to be prepared to talk about it and if possible to take a printout of the job listing with me the day of the job fair.
The night before I saw the perfect opportunity, and the morning of the job fair I talked to the recruiter from Caterpillar who asked me to apply, and mentioned she was very impressed that I was the only one she had met at the job fair who was prepared to talk about a specific job they wanted. Truly, this was just me following the instructions that HACE had given me.After applying that same afternoon, I was contacted for a phone interview a few weeks later, and in September 2011 I had an in person interview in Peoria, Illinois. After that I was made a job offer and asked to relocate to Fargo, North Dakota.
In closing, I want to thank HACE, and hope you guys continue the good work. Always make sure to keep in touch with your network, be prepared, and remember sometimes to advance your career it may be necessary to relocate to another city. Thank you once again HACE for the great start you have given my career!
