Associate, Auditor - New Graduate in Illinois

Northern Trust’s corporate-wide services groups is responsible for helping our employees deliver outstanding products and services to our clients by providing expert consulting throughout the company. The Corporate Audit team conducts audits throughout the company to ensure procedures and regulations are being followed. They assess and validate the effectiveness of business unit controls, and recommend measures to minimize financial loss.  

The Associate Auditor is responsible for conducting and documenting routine audit examinations throughout the company. The role is a direct report to an Audit Team Lead, and is responsible for completing the audit in accordance with stated budget, timeframes, and department standards. The Associate Auditor provides input to improve operational efficiency and/or to enhance the design or operating effectiveness of the internal control environment.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Performs review of various departments by understanding the key risks and controls within the function being reviewed

  • Develops and executes test steps, documents and evaluates results to assess the quality of the control and/or control environment

  • Responsible for staying current on regulatory rules and changes within the industry

  • Manages and performs special projects as assigned

  • Participates in meetings with business unit to discuss audit results

  • Communicates with partners at all levels, developing and presenting recommendations on operations and controls for the business unit

  • Utilizes understanding of various Corporate units to ensure operations, services, and systems have proper audit controls in place (i.e., design of the control environment)

  • Evaluates corporate management, business processes, business controls and operating practices during audits and consulting/monitoring engagements

  • Applies analytical skills to review information and determine potential control weaknesses

  • Develops a thorough understanding of the Northern Trust Audit Methodology and adheres to all applicable department standards

  • Completes and compiles a high quality summary of findings and recommendations for review in a concise and professional manner

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting, Master degree a plus and/or equivalent work experience with a graduation date of December 2017 – June 2018 preferred (Start date will be January or June/July 2018)
  • CPA eligible upon graduation preferred

  • Knowledge of auditing in the financial services industry and basic accounting principles

  • Analytical and organizational skills

  • Report writing and documentation skills
